HORSHAM PA, September 11, 2012 — Reed Technology and Information Services Inc., part of the LexisNexis® family and a leading provider of content management services, and PatentCore.com™, a major producer of online patent examiner information, today announced an agreement to jointly produce and deliver to patent professionals patent application reports with never before available examiner profile data.
These reports detail the on-the-job performance of more than 7,600 patent examiners, including data related to allowance rates, pre-appeal and appeal outcomes, comparisons against norms, and other analytic information.
“Patent examiner behavior can vary considerably from one examiner to the next, or from one art unit or technology center to the next,” said Dave Ballai, CIO & VP Commercial Solutions, Reed Technology. “The analysis and comprehensiveness of these new patent application reports identify behavior patterns among examiners that can affect patent prosecution strategy. This tool can potentially save thousands of dollars in prosecution costs, shorten the prosecution cycle, and improve the likelihood of a high-quality patent grant.”
“We‘re thrilled to be working with Reed Technology,” said Chris Holt, President and Co-Founder of PatentCore.com. “The products and services offered as a result of our combined efforts will eliminate frustrating guesswork from the patent acquisition process. Our objective is to help customers obtain stronger patents more quickly and at a lower cost.”
The analytics that form the core of these new reports are based on several different patent application-specific data sets, including more than 10 million Office Actions written by patent examiners during patent prosecution. With just an application serial number, customers can purchase reports on-demand, and immediately gain access to information specific to the examiner processing the selected application. The patent application report includes textual and graphical statistics representing an aggregation of various decisions made by the selected examiner. The report also gives the user the opportunity to easily compare statistics for other examiners in the same art unit.
